Console extension for base variables
Easy to create
Collection base variables are little gems in System Center Configuration Manager. They allow you to easily build application profiles that enable a single task sequence to deploy the necessary applications based on the profile chosen for the particular system.
A hassle to implement
This essentially permits a single task sequence to yield a customized end-result for every machine based on the software profile configured for the machine. Until now, the issue with base variables was that the user interface for it was not very sophisticated. It required a lot of manual lookups and was therefore an error prone process to input. Additionally, once you went through the hassle of inputting your packages & programs; reorganizing and consequently managing them was an utter nightmare and essentially, you were often forced to recreate them from scratch.
Easy to implement using the FREE OpsLogix SCCM console extension for base variables
Adding new basevariables, is now as easy as selecting the correct package and program and assigning it to the next basevariable sequential number.
The Program listbox will filter out any programs that do not qualify for use in a basevariable sequence. This means that any programs that are NOT configured with the option “Allow this program to be installed from the install software tasksequence action without being advertised” will not be listed. The same holds true for programs that are configured to “run with user’s rights” or programs that are configured to “allow users to interact with this program.

Installing is easy
Installing the console extension on any machine that has the ConfigMgr administrator console is simple:
1. Close all ConfigMgr administrator console
2. Extract the zip you downloaded from the OpsLogix website
3. Copy the Tasksequencebasevariableui.dll to the adminui\bin
4. Create a folder underneath the adminui\xmlstorage folder called extensions
5. Create a subfolder in the extensions folder called forms
6. Copy the collectionproperty.xml file into adminui\xmlstorage\extensions\form
