New “OpsLogix Oracle Management Pack for SCOM 2012” with SCOM resource pooling released.

We are proud to announce a new special release for our Oracle Management Pack on the SCOM 2012 platform. This release makes use of the great SCOM 2012 resource pooling feature.

Let me explain more:

The OpsLogix Oracle Management Pack is designed to monitor Oracle 10.2g, 11g and 12g servers installed on any type of OS platform. In order to monitor the Oracle servers the OpsLogix Oracle Management Pack makes use of an Operations Manager Resource Pool. This pool contains one or more management/gateway servers that will act as a monitoring proxy to gather the Oracle monitor data and passing monitoring information from Oracle servers to Operations Manager.

A resource pool member can only be a SCOM management server or SCOM gateway server. The best scenario is to add 2 or more members to a pool. By doing this you will get failover and load balancing functionalities. If one pool member is down the other one will take over the monitoring and by default the load is spread over the available members.

Please notice that Operations Manager will install the Oracle ODAC components automatically on all the pool members. No manual installations are needed. If there are already Oracle ODAC components installed this will conflict with the Oracle Management pack.

This release is NOT upgradable from other NON pooling Oracle versions (aka SCOM Single Agent). Also you can NOT run the NON pooling and pooling version side by side.

You will have to remove the Single Agent Version and configure the monitoring with this Pooling version.

The release is downloadable throughout the customer portal. See installation manual for installation instructions.

OpsLogix Oracle Management Pack in OMS

Microsoft announced the Operations Management Suite (OMS) at Microsoft Ignite 2015. It is the former Azure service Operational Insights with more features and capabilities. To quote Daniel Neumann: “Any cloud, any OS and any stack! You can combine all your cloud technologies in one service and it does not matter what technology you are using.”

OMS extends System Center investments and helps simplify management of datacenter assets. This means that you are able to monitor any instance in any cloud, including your datacenter, Azure, AWS, Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and OpenStack. OMS leverages a cloud-first approach to managing enterprise environments to meet new business challenges and accommodate new workloads, applications and cloud environments.

At OpsLogix we have been helping System Center customers maximizing their investments since the birth of the System Center suite. By making it possible to monitor Oracle environments (through the OpsLogix Oracle Management Pack) System Center customers are able to leverage their current investments and monitor disjointed technologies. Now that OMS is a reality, OpsLogix has embraced this new technology in a very early stage and natively supports OMS, both for alerting and performance metrics. It supports Oracle 10g up to version 12c, and has support for Oracle RAC.

By using search queries in OMS, we can view Oracle performance metrics such as database size as shown in the screenshot below:

By using search queries in OMS, the Oracle alerts (from the Oracle alert.log) can be queried:
