Automate the removal of agents with Opslogix Lifecycle Management Pack

Lifecycle Management is something that falls behind in many SCOM environments. It is common for organizations to reach out to us for help with manually removing agents when servers are no longer in use.

To decrease the manual tasks and automate the removal of agents, we created the Opslogix Lifecycle Management Pack.

How it works

The Opslogix Lifecycle Management Pack uses the comment field in maintenance mode to set a tag, which then triggers workflows that flag the agent for deletion in SCOM.

When you begin decommissioning a server and no longer need to monitor it, you set it to maintenance mode for a time at least 3 days in the future. In the comment field, you enter the tag you have chosen, based on your configured override.

The server remains in SCOM until one day before the maintenance mode ends, at which point it is automatically removed.

Business benefits

Implementing the Opslogix Lifecycle Management Pack brings value for both your team and your SCOM monitoring setup.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Saving time by decreasing manual work
  • Reducing the risk of manual errors
  • Keeping your SCOM environment clean and efficient
  • Consistent removal of agents

Summary

Lifecycle Management is an important factor in keeping your SCOM environment efficient, clean and up-to-date. However, we know that it is often something that falls behind in many SCOM environments.

With the Opslogix Lifecycle Management Pack you can decrease the manual work of removing agents when servers are no longer in use.
