The VMware Management Pack is made up of several management pack bundle (.mpb) files. Some add specific features that you may not need. Decide which ones to import before you start, so you only add the load you need.
Core files (always import)
These eight files make up the core of the VMware Management Pack. Without them, the management pack won't work correctly.

- OpsLogix IMP - Licensing Monitoring Management Pack.mpb
- OpsLogix IMP - VMware Base Management Pack.mpb
- OpsLogix IMP - VMware Collector Management Pack.mpb
- OpsLogix IMP - VMware Configuration Dashboard Management Pack.mpb
- OpsLogix IMP - VMware Monitoring Groups Management Pack.mpb
- OpsLogix IMP - VMware Monitoring Management Pack.mpb

The sections below describe each optional file in more detail.
Reports
Import OpsLogix IMP - Generic Reports Management Pack.mpb and OpsLogix IMP - VMware Reporting Management Pack.mpb. A folder called OpsLogix IMP - VMware Reports then appears in the Reporting workspace of the Operations Console.
Capacity analysis
Import OpsLogix IMP - VMware Capacity Analysis Management Pack.mpb to get alerts when an ESXi cluster has a (potential) overcommitment issue. The monitors appear in the Configuration section of Health Explorer. See Overcommitment monitors in the VMware MP.
Dashboards
Import OpsLogix IMP - VMware Dashboards Management Pack.mpb to add five summary dashboards to the Operations Console:
- Cluster Commitment
- Datastore Capacity
- Datastore Performance
- ESX Host Performance
- VM Performance
Guest OS monitoring
Import OpsLogix IMP - VMware Guest Monitoring Management Pack.mpb to get the guest OS state, OS disk state and performance metrics. If you monitor many VMs, this can have a considerable performance impact on SCOM.
After you import it, enable these rules and monitors with an override:

- VM Guest Disk free space (MB) monitoring
- VMware Guest OS state monitoring
Rules
- VM alert when Guest Disk FreeSpace % is below threshold
- VM Collect Guest Disk Capacity in MB
- VM Collect Guest Disk FreeSpace in MB
- VM Collect Guest Disk FreeSpace in %
Hardware monitoring
Import OpsLogix IMP - VMware Hardware Management Pack.mpb to monitor the hardware your VMware environment runs on. Your hosts need the correct vendor-specific (custom) ESXi image to expose all hardware metrics.
This can have a severe performance impact, depending on how many ESXi hosts you monitor. Make sure your SCOM environment has enough capacity before you import it into production. See Small set vs. full set hardware monitoring.
vCenter alarms: you don't need an extra management pack for these. Every vCenter alarm becomes a SCOM alert automatically. See Change how vCenter alarms create SCOM alerts.
