In a multitenant Oracle database, the container database (CDB) holds one or more pluggable databases (PDBs). You monitor PDBs with the Oracle Management Pack by adding each PDB as its own Oracle instance.
Add a PDB
- Open Administration > Opslogix MP Configuration > Oracle IMP Configuration Dashboard, tab Add/Remove Monitoring Instance.
- Select the resource pool, and enter the server name and port of the database server.
- As Instance Name, enter the service name of the PDB.
- Enter the monitoring account and password, click Test Connection, and then Add Instance.
- Assign a license to the new instance (Assign tab).
Repeat this for every PDB you want to monitor. You don't need the old "container and pluggable database discovery"; it is disabled by default.
Monitoring account
The monitoring account must be able to log on to each PDB you add. You can use a common user (name starting with C##) created in the CDB root, with the privileges granted for all containers (CONTAINER=ALL), or a local user in each PDB. For the privileges, see KB: How to create the monitoring account for the Oracle monitoring.
What belongs to the PDB and what to the CDB
Tablespaces, data files, sessions and invalid objects or indexes belong to the PDB, so they are monitored per PDB. Redo logs, control files, archive logs, the Flash Recovery Area, RMAN backups and Data Guard belong to the container database as a whole. If you want those monitored, also add the CDB (the service name of the root container) as an instance.
Licensing
The Oracle Management Pack is licensed per Oracle instance. Every PDB or CDB that you add as an instance uses one instance license.
